First Position

Primary Ballet student: Xi Min

First position is the most fundamental standing position of feet : a closed position where the dancer stands with the feet together so that the heels are touching. The legs turned equally outward from the hip joints and the body weight is equally distributed over the two feet.

While doing a demi plie in first position, the knees are opened side way, aligned with the hips and the toes. A nice 'diamond' shape is shown in between the legs. The feet are to stand nicely and firm with ten toes on the floor, without toes rolling in or out.
